Going Green One Desk At A TimeAccording to the United States Department of Energy (DOE), lighting
accounts for 8 percent of all energy consumption in the United States
and 22 percent of electricity nationwide. LEDs have the potential
to reach 200 lm/W (lumens per watt), compared to incandescent lamps
at 15 lm/W and fluorescent tubes at 90 lm/W. If solid-state lighting
replaced all existing lights, the DOE estimates customer savings of
$115 billion by 2025 and a 10% reduction in greenhouse emission gases. Replacing incandescent lamps with LED lighting is not only environmentally friendly and RoHS compliant, it saves money in the long run. That being said, more companies are increasing their focus on the social responsibility of “going green.” Arrow’s engineering and design services have assisted many companies to work on their three R’s -- reduce, reuse and recycle. Light Corporation of Michigan, a specialty lighting manufacturer established in 1986 is assisting its customers’ dedication to energy conservation. Light Corporation embraced the opportunity to create “green” products for their customers. To deliver on their promise, Light Corporation partnered with Arrow’s lighting specialists to assist in creating a task lamp that saves energy, increases longevity and reduces heat output. Light Corporation was successful in meeting their customers’ demands. They created the Trillium task light, a new innovative product that offers an LED solution with low wattage (3.7W) and lasts longer than 50,000 hours. Light Corporation not only met its target costs but also achieved early market delivery. Today, the Trillium task lights are being used by 911 call stations in Canada that are 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week operations.
